LATEST NEWS

Updated July 29. 2009

The NEW UMLER is coming August 31st!

Originally scheduled for July 25th, The New UMLER has been delayed.

Are you ready?

GLR is ready to assist you with the new system. We are working diligently to get our customers ready for the change over.

If you received an email from Railinc indicating your file has errors, now is the time to get the errors corrected. Waiting can cost you, after August 31st, the clock will be running on equipment with errors. After 90 days equipment will carry a label indicating "restricted in interchange", don't let this happen to your rolling stock.

In the new system air dates must be included to be a complete and valid entry.

Great Lakes Railcar (GLR) provides Umler upload and file maintenance services.

If the following list of materials and services does not provide  what  you  need,   contact  us  and  we  will  consider  your unique needs.

Underlined subject lines below are links to that section.

GLR is providing UMLER registration, and 'inspections' data (air dates and loco periodicals) upload services for cars and locos!

We have inserted into UMLER over 200 freight cars and locos for commercial freight and passenger operations and over 250 passenger cars and locos as a Member Benefit to Railroad Passenger Car Alliance members. We can provide this service for you also, as well as fleet management services.

We can also upload data on containers ('U' reporting mark last letter) and trailers/chassis ('Z' reporting mark last letter).

We can also be found in US Government Central Contractor Registry and SBA ProNet.

View the market list for our latest cars and locos available for lease or sale, and now a list of "Wants"

GLR Products and Services:

The following services are offered on an ala-carte basis or on a negotiated contract basis.

Rolling Stock UPLOADS to the UMLER File

It is now a requirement that all rolling stock, to include passenger cars and locomotives, be in the UMLER File prior to movement on all Class One common carriers, and many regional and short line RR's.

This July the "new Umler" will be fully fielded by Railinc. GLR can help you make sure that your equipment data is ready for the transition to this new system. We can also train your staff for this new system. New Umler will be fielded July 26th. This new system incorporates an automated system of compliance with the rules, that may include restricting movement after 31 days and potential deletion after 91 days.

This link leads to a presentation that we made at the Railroad Passenger Car Alliance Conference in January 2009 about the "New Umler" system. This presentation may answer many of your questions.

The new FRA regulation on "Reflectorization" has an affect on the Umler loading, and is an individual entry in the "new Umler". For passenger cars, they are exempted from this, requires coding for the exemption. For freight cars this is reported with performer, reporter, SPLC, and date completed.

Air Dates are now required in Umler for movement of any equipment on Class 1 Railroads. Your air brake work should be performed by a Certified Air technician. They can earn certification in freight, passenger or both. Make sure that your air brake valves are serviced by an appropriately certified shop and you should retain the receipts for all work. Air Brake work is reported with performer, reporter, SPLC and date (including the day) completed.

GLR services include uploading your commercial passenger cars, locos and freight or MoW fleet equipment using your reporting marks. If you are purchasing cars, we can provide a list of services for you to select from ranging from just uploading your information, and/or do the inspection, gather the equipment information and then upload the data to UMLER, to complete fleet management services.

If you don't have the computer assets, trained staff or time to deal with this very important process, let GLR take care of the details for you.

If you have any really "unique" rolling stock, we'd like to hear about it! The RPCNB, represented by GLR staff, is on the Umler re-write committee at Railinc. We are looking out for the interests of passenger cars and locos with their unique features, and the small operators with their unique staff and computational limitations.

Commercial customers use this link to access information on Umler and equipment.

RPCA members, use this link for information on this valuable RPCA member benefit.
