GLR OFFERS THE FOLLOWING SERVICES:
Umler Upload and Reporting Mark management. We are currently managing reporting marks for over 3 dozen clients, with a fleet of over 1,000 units. We can upload your equipment or correct the entries that are already there under your reporting mark.
GLR also provides temporary Umler registrations for equipment making a 'one time move', such as going to shop for a major rebuild after purchase, or even scrapping. GLR can also provide small fleet services. Many of the larger lease and service companies will not manage fleets below a certain number. We can handle those smaller numbers for you.
In addition, GLR offers passenger air brake testing (COT&S) by a Certified Air Technician and upload to Umler of the test completed by our technician. GLR can also provide air brake system conversions, and other passenger car engineering services.
GLR is still a CCR (Central Contractor Registry) for US Government and is a woman owned small business by Federal Standards. GLR is a trade member of RPCA.
HISTORY:
Great Lakes Railcar was established in 1985 to offer private railcar owners a method to find parts for their private passenger cars. Over the years we have located seating, hand grabs, water cup holders, and many other interior items.
GLR has for sale from time to time some railcars, parts, tools and gauges, which can be found on our market page.
GLR was also the engine behind 5 AAR approved special type F couplers for passenger car installations, along with yokes and other supporting equipment, and actually produced many car sets and supported installations in several shops. We are no longer producing couplers due to market conditions.
GLR participated in the re-write of the UMLER (Universal Machine Language Equipment Register) to the new Umler/EMIS. This was a 5 year project. GLR worked with the Class 1 Railroads and Large Private Fleets to determine what data to keep, what to expand, and to test that system once it was written.
